Ukraine-born Maxim Podoprigora was a breaststroke swimmer representing Austria at the three Olympic from 2000 at Sydney to 2008 at Beijing. He reached the semi-finals over 200 metres in 2000 and 2004 as his best Olympic results. Podoprigora’s greatest moment came in 2001, when he won the 200 metres silver medal at the World Championships, becoming the first Austrian swimmer to podium at the Worlds.
Podoprigora added medals of each colour at European Championships with gold in 2001, silver in 2002 and bronzes in 1998 and 2000, all over 200 metres. His parents Yevgenia Rakitina and Yuri Podoprigora were also swimmers.
Personal Bests: 100 m breaststroke – 1:01.59 (2009); 200 m breaststroke – 2:11.09 (2001).
