Biography

German beach volleyball player Oliver Oetke partnered Andreas Scheuerpflug at the 2000 Sydney Olympics when both lost their first-round match to the eventual champions Dain Blanton and Eric Fonoimoana 15-7. In 1999 and 2000 Oetke and Scheuerpflug won the German national title and in 2000, Oetke was named the Beach Volleyball Player of the Year in Germany.

Oetke earlier played indoor volleyball with TSV Grafing (1981-86), TSV 1860 München (1986-89), TSV Milbertshofen (1989-91), Moerser SC (1991-92), ASV Dachau (1992-94), 1. FC Norderstedt (1995), VfB Ludwigslust, Swiss club TV Gelterkinden, and finally 1. VC Minden (2007-10). In 1991, he helped Milbertshofen win the German national title.

Oetke later became an experienced specialist in orthopaedics and trauma surgery, focusing on the treatment of spinal problems.
