Biography

Hans Müller was a singles figure skater who competed for Switzerland at the 1956 Cortina d’Ampezzo Winter Olympics. He twice competed at the World Championships, in 1955 and 1956, placing 12th and 13th, respectively. At the European Championships, he was eighth in 1955, 10th in 1954, and 11th in 1956. Müller was a butcher by trade and worked in his family business.

After the Cortina Olympics, Müller emigrated to the United States where he joined the Ice Capades. There he skated pairs with Darlene Ripepe in an act entitled, “Hans and Pepe.” They toured North America for two decades, only leaving the Ice Capades in 1976. Müller and Ripepe then moved their act to Europe, skating in Ice Parade.

In the later 1970s Müller settled in the USA in California, where he began a coaching career. He coached skaters for 30 years at the Skating Edge, formerly known as the Olympic Ice Arena. Hans Müller became a proud American citizen on 17 June 1983.
