Biography

Jari Puikkonen made his international début at the 1978 World Championships, where he won a silver in the team event and he won a medal at every major international championship in which he competed except his last one, the 1991 World Championships. Puikkonen competed in three Winter Olympics and won one gold (1988 in the team event) and two bronzes (1980 on the large hill and 1984 on the normal hill). At the World Championships, besides his team silver in 1978, Puikkonen won four golds (1989 on the large hill; 1984-85 and 1989 in the team event), two silvers (1982 on the normal hill and 1985 on the large hill), and one bronze (1982 in the team event). Puikkonen also won the 1981 Ski Flying World Championships and won three Finnish titles.
