Biography

Hans Rampf was educated as a hairdresser but never worked at that job. He played 640 games of ice hockey from 1948-64 for EC Bad Tölz. Rampf earned 101 international caps and scored 18 goals for Germany and participated in the Olympics in 1956 and 1960, and won a silver medal at the 1953 World Championships.

After Rampf’s active career he became coach at EC Bad Tölz from 1961-64 and 1972-75, winning the West German title in 1962. He later coached at EC Holzkirchen (1964-65), Düsseldorfer EG (1965-69, German Champion in 1967), SC Riessersee (1969-71) and Augsburger EV (1971-72). From 1981-92 Rampf was chief national coach, coaching at the World Championships in 1977-79 and 1981 as well as at the 1980 Olympics. From 1981-96 he then was head coach for ice hockey coaches in West Germany. In 2001, Rampf was inducted into the International Hockey Hall of Fame and later the German Ice Hockey Hall of Fame. He died in 2001 after a stroke.
