Biography

Ivan Tregubov and Nikolay Sologubov were considered one of the strongest defense pairs in the world at the end of the 1950s. Tregubov was called to CSKA Moskva by his Army friend Sologubov in 1952 and he played with them until 1962. He then spent the next two seasons with SKA Kuybyshev and his career ended in 1965, after a severe leg injury, while playing with Khimik Voskresensk. With CSKA Moskva, Tregubov won six Soviet Championships titles (1955, 1956, 1958-61).

Internationally, besides his Olympic gold, Tregubov was a World Champion in 1956, won silver in 1955 and 1957-59, and bronze in 1961, also winning European Championships in 1955-56, and 1958-59. In 1958 and 1961 Tregubov was selected as the best defenseman in the world.
