Biography

Günter Zöller was an East German singles figure skater, finishing eleventh at the 1968 Grenoble Winter Games. Internationally, he won two bronze medals, both in 1970, at the European and World Championships. In total, Zöller participated in five World Championships and six Europeans and, in 1965, 1967-70 and 1972, was the East German champion. Due to several injuries he missed the 1971 season.

At the 1972 Göteborg Europeans, Zöller did not compete, choosing to defect before the start of the event. He then became a successful coach in Ludwigshafen and Mannheim in West Germany. From 1985-88 he was Italian national coach, before returning to Mannheim.
