The 1964 Olympic jumping competition was held at the Kokuritsu Kyogijo, or National Stadium, and ended the Olympics, held on the final afternoon. Both individual and team competitions were held concurrently, unlike in 1960 at Roma when they were separate events. [Pierre Jonquères d’Oriola] of France won the individual event, which he had also won in 1952, becoming the first to win gold in the event twice. Germany won the team gold medal.
Because of the distance to Tokyo, horses were mostly flown to the 1964 Olympics for the first time. This caused some problems in this era as three horses had to be destroyed in transport to or from the Olympics.
