Qualifying was held on Thursday, 19 February, with the final scheduled for Saturday, but it had to be postponed to the last day of the 2026 Winter Olympics because of heavy snow. The defending champion was Eileen Gu, who had already won silver medals in slopestyle and Big Air at Livigno. Britain’s Zoe Atkin was another favorite, as the 2025 World Champion and 2023 World silver medalist.
Qualifying was uneventful as Gu made it through despite a poor first run. She skied a safe run to place fifth and move on to the final. Qualifying was led by Atkin, followed by China’s Li Fanghui and then the 2018 Olympic Champion, Cassie Sharpe of Canada.
In the final Atkin took the lead in the first round, as Gu struggled in eighth place. But Gu then came back in round two, scoring 94.00 to take the lead. In the final round Atkin improved to 92.50 but she was bested by Li Fanghui’s run of 93.00 as China went 1-2 and Atkin settled for the bronze medal.
This was the second Winter Olympics for Li but she had also won a silver medal in halfpipe at the 2020 Youth Winter Olympics. The victory for Eileen Gu left her with three medals and one gold medal, the most by any freestyle skier at MiCo26.
Gu had won two gold medals and a silver at Beijing 2022 and her Livigno performance left her with three gold and three silver medals, to lead all freestyle skiers both in terms of medals and golds.
