Format84 kilometres, from Athens to Marathon and then return to Athens.

The road race was held over a similar course as the running marathon, with the athletes starting at the entrance to the Panathenaic Stadium in Athens, riding to Marathon and then returning to Athens, and finishing at the Velodrome. The favorites were probably the British rider, Billy Pett, who had won the 20-kilometers, the German, Erich Dannenberg, and the Frenchman, Maurice Bardonneau. However, neither Pett nor Dannenberg finished. The event was eventually won in a finishing sprint by Fernand Vast over Bardonneau. Thirteen of the twenty-four starters finished the course.
