The air pistol events were held on the first and second days of shooting at the 2024 Olympics, in the same format as had been used in every Games since 2012.

Tokyo silver medalist Damir Mikec led the qualifiers with a score of 584, but failed to make an impact in the final and was second of the eight qualifiers to be eliminated from title contention. The highly regarded German pair of Robin Walter and Christian Reitz were also eliminated early, with the final quartet hailing from China, Korea and two from Italy.

Lee Won-Ho was soon dispatched, but the other three were neck and neck into the final shots of the competition. Paolo Monna’s 22nd shot scored a lowly 8.3, the lowest of the final, and he was forced to settle for bronze. Although Federico Maldini led at some stages, China’s Xie Yu was a little more consistent in his marksmanship and won the first of his countries shooting gold medals in Paris.
