The match au visé was shot at 20 metres, usually with muzzle-loading dueling pistols of about .45 calibre, and allowed the shooters to take “careful aim.” In Athina the target was the silhouette of a human dressed in a frock-coat with the bulls-eye located in mid-thorax. The event was only contested at the Olympics in 1906. It was won by France’s Léon Moreaux, who had competed at the 1900 Olympics and would appear again at London in 1908, finishing his Olympic career with seven medals and two gold medals.
