Three-time Olympic luger Markus Kleinheinz represented Austria at the 1998 Nagano, 2002 Salt Lake City, and 2006 Torino Winter Olympics. He competed in the men’s singles and placed fifth, eighth, and ninth, respectively. At European Championships (1998) and World Championships (1995) he won two team bronze medals. In 2003, he won the overall World Cup. After a positive doping test in May 2000, Kleinheinz was suspended for two years. And upon his return won his only national title in 2005.
In 2003, Kleinheinz was awarded the Decoration of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria. He later turned to coaching and became head coach of the Austrian youth team.
