From at least 1944 through 1946, Canadian ice hockey forward Pete Leichnitz was a member of the Hull Volants in both the junior and senior ranks of the Ottawa City Hockey League, leading the junior division in playoff points during his second season. After spending 1946-1947 with the Quebec Senior Hockey League’s Ottawa Senators, he returned to the OCSHL to skate with the Ottawa New Edinburghs, where he was recruited by the RCAF Flyers to help represent his country at the 1948 Winter Olympics. Although his squad captured the ice hockey gold medal, Leichnitz remained a reserve player for the entire tournament and did not participate in any matches. Despite this, he did take home a physical medal and remained with the Flyers for the duration of the 1948-1949 season before spending the next two years skating with the Ottawa Army. His final season, 1951-1952, was split between the Buckingham Bucks and the Renfrew Millionaires. Outside of sports he spent the majority of his working life with Canadian General Electric. He was inducted into the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame in 2008 as a member of his gold medal-winning team.
