Biography

At the 2006 Winter Olympics, Georg Hettich had his greatest sports moment, winning the gold medal in the individual competition and a bronze medal in the sprint. He also won a silver in the team event, as he had at Salt Lake City in 2002 and at the 2003 and 2005 World Championships.

Hettich also won two German Championships, in 2005 and 2006. In September 2009 he announced he would retire after the 2009-10 season, but he was a last-minute qualifier for the Vancouver Olympics. He was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award. Besides his sports career, Hettich studied sports science.
