Biography

In 2006, Philipp Schoch became the first snowboarder to win two Olympic gold medals, retaining the parallel giant slalom title he first won in 2002. In Torino, he encountered his brother Simon in the final, and they won the gold silver. This was only the third time two brothers had finished 1-2 in an individual winter event, after the 1928 skeleton and the 1984 skiing slalom. Despite his Olympic successes, he did not win his first World Championships medals until 2007, when he took two silver medals after returning from a serious back injury. Philipp Schoch is also the winner of the Parallel World Cup in 2005.
