Biography

By taking 15 of the 27 available medals, including 7 of the 9 golds, Sweden dominated the men’s kayak portion of the 1950 World Championships. Ingemar Hedberg was a major factor in this success, winning the K-2 500 and K-2 1000 with Lars Glassér and the K-1 4x500 relay with Glassér, Gert Fredriksson, and Lennart Klingström. Hedberg and Glassér then teamed up for the K-2 1000 at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics and took silver behind the Finnish duo of Kurt Wires and Yrjö Hietanen in a photo finish. Despite these successes, he retired from active competition prior to the 1954 World Championships. Both Hedberg and Glassér were members of the Brunnsvikens Kanotklubb of Stockholm.
