Biography

Ted Ligety began skiing at Park City Mountain Resory, site of several of the 2002 Winter Olympic Alpine races. He was named to the US Ski Developmental team in 2004, winning a silver medal that year in the slalom in the Junior World Cup, and moved up to the US Ski team in 2005. His Olympic gold medal in the combined was a big surprise, but in March 2006, he won his first World Cup race, a giant slalom in Korea. In 2008, Ligety won two World Cup giant slaloms and was the giant slalom World Cup champion for the year. He also won a World Cup giant slalom in February 2009, his fourth World Cup race victory, so far all coming in the giant slalom. At the 2009 World Championships, he earned a bronze medal in the GS. Through 2009, Ligety has six US championships, and serves as the Director of Skiing at the Mt. Holly Club in southwest Utah.
