Biography

Sheila Conover competed at three Olympics (1984-92) with a best finish of fourth in the K4 at the 1984 Los Angeles Games. She retired after the 1988 Olympics, while finishing her degree at UC Berkeley but came back in 1991 and made the 1992 Olympic team, despite training for only one year. While at Cal she competed on the crew team, while majoring in environmental geography. She also served as an assistant volleyball coach at St. Mary’s College in Moraga, California from 1989-90. Conover won two gold medals at the 1987 Pan American Games, in K2 and K4. Conover’s sister, Jenifer Conover Evans, was a high-level ocean sailor who sailed the Pacific and Indian Oceans and the Mediterranean Sea. Sheila later worked in sales with Farolline Yacht Sales and as a teacher in the Newport Mesa Unified School District.
