Biography

Laurent Dona Fologo was an Ivorian journalist and politician who represented the Democratic Party of Ivory Coast (PCDI). After training as a journalist at the École supérieure de journalisme de Lille (ESJ Lille) in France Fologo became the editor-in-chief of the Ivorian newspaper Fraternité Matin.

Upon entering politics Fologo served under Félix Houphouët-Boigny, the first President of the Ivory Coast, from 1974 to 1989. During this time he became the Minister of Information, Culture, and Sports for the country and was awarded with the Olympic Order in Silver in 1983. Fologo later served under the presidency of both Henri Konan Bédié and Laurent Gbagbo. In 2001 President Gbagbo appointed Fologo as the President of the Economic and Social Council, a position that he held until May 2011, retiring from politics shortly after. He died in February 2021 after contracting the coronavirus.
