As an amateur cyclist Tino Conti won gold in the road race, team road race, and team road time trial events at the 1967 Mediterranean Games in Tunis. That same year Conti won a stage of the Tour de l’Avenir in France, in addition to finishing second in the general classification. His performances earned him a place on the Italian team for the road race at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics, but he did not finish the course. Despite this, Conti turned professional the following year, winning the Giro delle Marche one-day road race.
In 1970 and 1971 Conti rode in the Tour de France, but did not finish in either year. He had better Grand Tour success back home when he finished fourth in the 1974 edition of the Giro d’Italia, finishing behind the race winner Eddy Merckx and compatriots Gianbattista Baronchelli and Felice Gimondi. Conti had another top-ten finish at the Giro the following year, placing eighth overall in the general classification. That same year he just missed out on the podium at Milan–San Remo when he came fourth in a bunch sprint. Towards the end of his career Conti won bronze in the road race at the 1976 UCI Road World Championships in Ostuni, Italy.
