Biography

Ricardo García began cycling as a young child, winning his first race in Toluca, Mexico when he was 14-years-old. García continued to win races across Mexico, earning himself a place on the national cycling team. In 1950 he went to the Central American and Caribbean Games in Guatemala, winning gold in the individual road race and the combined team event. One year later he won silver in the team road race at the Pan American Games in Buenos Aires with compatriots Sergio Sánchez, Juventino Cepeda, and Enrique Giménez. In 1952 García went to the Olympics in Helsinki but did not finish in the individual road race. He rode races in multiple countries including France, Italy, Finland, Russia, and Australia, before working as a coach in the United States.
