Cyclist Carmelo Saglimbeni was a five-time Eritrean cycling champion (1962, 1964, 1968, 1972, 1980) and represented Ethiopia at two Olympic Games in the 1960s. In 1964 Ethiopia sent a delegation of 12 athletes to the Tokyo Games, with Saglimbeni being one of the four cyclists to represent the nation. He competed in both the individual road race and the 100 kilometres team time trial, finishing 79th and 26th, respectively. Four years later the Ethiopian quartet repeated the result in the team time trial, once again placing 26th at the Mexico City Games.
