Biography

German foil fencer Wolfgang Wienand finished an unfortunate fourth at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics losing the bronze match to France’s Franck Boidin 15-11. With the team he finished sixth, the same as at Sydney in 2000. In 1999, Wienand won the individual bronze medal at the World Championships. In 1998 he won team gold at the Europeans as well as the individual silver medal. In 1987, he also won the overall world cup.

Wienand studied chemicals in Bonn, and became a graduated engineer in bio-organic chemistry. He later became CEO of the Siegfried Holding AG, and co-managing director at Siegfried GmbH in Switzerland.
