Biography

Épée fencer Fritz Zimmermann finished fifth with the mixed German épée team at the 1960 Roma Olympics. Eight years later in Mexico City, now starting for West Germany, he placed fourth with the team and was eliminated in the third round of the individual event. In 1964 he was not nominated for the Games, despite ranking #3 in West Germany, due to “atmospheric” reasons with the coaches and the sports officials. In 1955 and 1957 he won the West German individual titles.
