Biography

A colonel in the Mexican army, Sergio Escobedo competed in the modern pentathlon when the majority of the athletes were still in the military. His greatest success came at the Pan American Games, when he won bronze medals in Chicago 1959 and in São Paulo 1963 both in the team competition with José Pérez and Antonio Almada. He placed 8th with the team at the 1960 Olympics, where he also participated in the fencing competitions. Escobedo was also involved in the 1968 Olympics in Mexico, as the head of the modern pentathlon committee.
