Biography

Born in Paris to American parents, Thomas Potter refereed two rugby matches at the 1900 Paris Olympics. A top sprinter as a youth, he became known as a rugby player first with Racing Club de France and then with l’Olympique. Potter was from a prominent family who lived in Charleston, South Carolina; Savannah, Georgia; and Princeton, New Jersey before moving to Paris shortly before his birth. He eventually returned to the USA and died in New York City in 1948.
