Biography

Willi Rößler, born in Duisburg-Meiderich, came to Neunkirchen during the World War II and in 1942 became one of the fencers at TuS 1860 Neunkirchen. The Olympic Games in Helsinki in 1952 were his highlight of his career, although he was only nominated for the sabre team, which was eliminated in the first round. From 1953-55 Rößler also participated in the World Championships. Rößler won just one Saar title but had the distinction of winning the last Saarland Championship (foil) in 1955.
