Biography

Abdel Aziz Kabil took up football in high school and, after graduation, was a member of Al-Ahly for a brief stint prior to joining Zamalek in 1948. His tenure with the club lasted through 1954, during which time he won an Egyptian Cup in 1952 and was selected to represent Egypt at that year’s Summer Olympics in Helsinki. There, Egypt defeated Chile in the qualifying round, but was then eliminated by Germany; Kabil only played in the winning match.

A 1950 graduate of the national Military College, Kabil became much better known in his country for his career with the army. He distinguished himself as an officer in the 1967 War with Israel and, in particular, the October 1973 War, which was considered a significant political victory for Egypt. He continued in command positions until 1984, after which he returned to sport by holding several important administrative roles with both the Zamalek Club and the Egyptian Football Federation.
