Biography

John Neely attended Princeton, graduating in 1894, and attended graduate school in engineering there, during which time he became the University tennis champion in 1897. In 1898, he placed second in the IC4A tennis championship. He later became an engineer in Chicago with the South Side Elevated Railway, then the Kellogg Switchboard & Supply Co., and with the Arnold Co. He was then editor of the Society of Automotive Engineers in New York, and was associated there with LaBranche & Co. Neely later went into banking for a time, and then became manager of the retail department for Wright & Ditson sporting goods company. He was also secretary of the Western Lawn Tennis Association.
