Biography

In addition to golf, Fred Semple also played in the 1904 Olympic tennis tournament. He played on the second-place team in the Olympic golf event and also qualified for the individual match play although he lost in round one to Mason Phelps. He played both singles and doubles in the Olympic tennis competition, defeating his doubles partner, George Stadel, in the first round of the singles before losing in round two. He and Stadel lost in the first round of the doubles. Semple was a well-known stock broker in St. Louis who founded his own company Semple, Jacobs & Co., and later became President of the St. Louis Stock Exchange.
