Dušan Maravić was born in France in 1939 before moving back to Yugoslavia with his family once World War II had ended. Maravić began playing football with Radnički Bajmok when he was six-years-old before joining Spartak Subotica in 1956. Two years later he signed with Red Star Beograd where he won three league titles (1959, 1960, 1964) and two Yugoslav Cups (1959, 1964).
In 1960 Maravić played in seven matches for the Yugoslavia national football team. He made his international début in a friendly against Morocco, scoring a goal in their 5–0 win. Later in the year he represented the team at the Roma Olympics, with Yugoslavia going on to win gold. He later joined Racing Paris in 1966 before joining the Venezuelan team Deportivo Italia, winning the league title with them in 1972. After his playing career Maravić moved into national football administration, working at both UEFA and FIFA.
