Biography

Magdalena Schmidt was a member of East Germany’s women’s gymnastics team, winning the bronze medal in the team all-around event at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics. Individually she placed 29th in the all-around and seventh on her best apparatus, the vault. Schmidt later worked as a kindergarten teacher, then studied political science and became legal adviser at the Berlin Sports Facility Management. She married football (soccer) player Michael Jakob.
