Biography

Luciana Lagorara was an Italian gymnast who later became a judge at international competitions. Described as one of the cornerstones of Italian gymnastics Lagorara represented her nation at the European and World Championships during the 1950s. In 1956 she achieved her dream to compete at the Olympics where she was part of the Italian delegation in Melbourne. The Italians finished in seventh place overall in the team competition with Lagorara’s best individual result coming in the horse vault where she placed 39th. She was 47th in the balance beam, 50th in the individual all-round and the uneven bars, and 53rd in the floor exercise.

For her work as a competition judge Lagorara was awarded with the Silver Star for Sporting Merit by the National Olympic Committee. Her sister Elena also competed at the Melbourne Olympics as well as the Roma Olympics in 1960.
