Biography

Helga Bîrsan placed second in the vault at the 1952 Romanian National Championships. She was selected for the Olympic team to compete at the Helsinki Olympics in that same year, where she scored 68.00 individual points, fifth amongst her eight teammates.

A graduate of the Institute of Physical Culture in București, she was a physical education teacher at Liceul Vasile Alecsandri, Liceul Teoretic Mihail Kogălniceanu and Liceul Pedagogic Costache Negri, all in Galați. She was married to a doctor, Grigore “Țuchi” Bîrsan (1926–1977), also a well-known sports figure in Galați, involved in basketball and in football.
