Biography

Husamettin Topuzoğlu first became a basketball referee in regional matches in Turkey in 1955. From there Topuzoğlu moved up to referee national matches in 1958 before becoming an international referee with the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) in 1961. Amongst the hundreds of games he took charge of, he was the referee in the final of the 1969 EuroBasket tournament between the Soviet Union and Yugoslavia, along with several matches at the 1976 Montréal Olympics. Topuzoğlu refereed his final match in 1985 and later served as the Vice-President of the Turkish Basketball Federation.
