Biography

The nearest Peter Starling came to a winning the British Men’s Gymnastics Championship was in 1952 when he finished third behind Jack Whitford and the eventual three-times Olympian Ken Buffin. Starling appeared at his first Olympics that year at Helsinki, but was the lowest placed of the six British competitors in the Individual All-Round event. Having been established as a regular member of the England team at international level, Starling went to his second Olympics at Roma in 1960. Unfortunately he broke three bones in a foot after slipping while vaulting, and was taken to a local hospital. Starling later became leader of the Norwich Priory Gymnastics Club in Norwich.
