Biography

Ken Buffin won the Welsh national gymnastics title nine times between 1949-58. He won just one British title, in 1955, but finished second in each of the five years before he eventually won the title. He finished third in 1958, at the age of 34. Internationally he represented Wales five times and Great Britain on eight occasions, including the three Olympic Games, 1948, 1952 and 1960. Despite finishing second in 1956, in the first British championships to be held at Birmingham for 25 years, Buffin missed out on the Melbourne Olympics that year.

Ken Buffin came from a family of gymnasts. His father Bill was a Welsh international, and coach to the St. Aidan’s Gymnastic Club for more than 30 years. Ken’s brother Colin was a member of the Cardiff Centre Club, before becoming a coach, and Colin’s two sons, David and Michael, were also keen gymnasts.
