Biography

Willi Stadel, a German gymnast from Konstanz, won the gold medal with the German team at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. The twelve exercises were held outdoors in front of 20,000 spectators at Dietrich Eckart Stage, nowadays called Waldbühne. Individually his best result was sixth in the floor exercise and he finished eighth in the all-around competition. In 1940-41 he won seven German titles and in 1950 added another when he won the horizontal bar. His brother Karl also was a well-known gymnast, and was a substitute in Berlin in 1936.
