Biography

Cindy Ryder was a Bucknell graduate who was a gold medalist in single sculls at the 1991 Pan American Games. She started at Bucknell on the cross-country team but took up rowing in her sophomore year. She competed in double sculls at the 1992 Olympics, alongside Mary Mazzio, but again rowed the single at the 1993 World Championships. Ryder, later Cindy Matthes, became an elementary school teacher in Lincoln, Massachusetts, with a specialty in teaching IT and computer science. She and Mazzio continued to compete together at the annual Head of the Charles regatta, doing so continuously from 1992 into the 2010s.
