Biography

Thomas Elmitt was a regular presence on Canada’s national shooting team for many years, with perhaps his most notable participation being at the 1908 Summer Olympics, where he finished joint-28th in a field of 50 competitors in the free rifle, 1,000 yards event. His other major tournaments included three appearances at Bisley (1908, 1919, and 1920) and one at the Palmer Trophy contest (1907). A career military man, he commanded the 21st Infantry Battalion of the Canadian Army during World War I and was wounded in combat in France in 1916, but continued to serve until the end of the conflict. Outside of the army he was involved in the lumber business and was active in hunting, golf, and fishing, in addition to sport shooting.
