Biography

Edward Shaske started finding local success in sport shooting in the mid-1950s, but had to wait until 1968 to make his sole Olympic appearance in Mexico City. There, he finished 16th in the trap competition. The following year he competed at the 1969 World Shotgun Championships and made another appearance at that tournament a decade later in 1979. He attended many more editions of the Olympics as a coach, being first selected for the boycotted 1980 Moscow Games, but actually heading the trapshooting team at the 1984, 1988, and 1992 editions. He also helped organize the 1983 World Championships, which were held in his hometown of Edmonton.

By career Shaske was involved in land and real estate, most notably founding a firm for real estate appraisal. He also served as President of the Edmonton Real Estate Board. His son, Edward Shaske Jr., was selected for the 1980 Moscow Olympics and was seen as a prospect for the 1984 edition, but died unexpectedly of a heart attack at the age of 25 in 1982.
