In 1959 he finished second in the 50 metres running target at the national youth championships, before winning three consecutive titles in the event at the national championships from 1966 to 1968. In 1966 Bellingrodt also won his first medal at an international competition with silver in the 50 metres running target at the Central American and Caribbean Games in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He continued to specialise in the running target event, competing at the 1972 München and 1976 Montréal Olympics, finishing 15th and 13th, respectively. In 1978 he won gold in the team event at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Medellín and bronze in the team event at the World Shooting Championships in Seoul.
