Biography

Sports shooter Anke Völker married teammate Ralf Schumann, who was the most successful rapid-fire shooter ever. Völker herself made the East German Olympic team in 1988, when placing fifth with the 10 metres air pistol, and tied 24th with the sporting pistol over 25 metres. She also participated with the re-unified German in 1996 at Atlanta and 2000 at Sydney, but had no significant results.

Völker’s greatest moment came in 1986 when she won the World Championships at air pistol. Völker-Schumann also added two more team silver and two team bronze medals. In East Germany, she won five national titles and, after re-unification, was the German champion in 1992 and 1995.
