Biography

Lt. John Dietz competed in several individual Olympic events, in addition to his team successes, but his best finish in those was fourth in the 1912 rapid-fire pistol event. Dietz spent most of his lifelong army career as armorer and superintendent of the 71st Regimental Armory in the Bronx. He did serve with the 71st in both the 1914 Mexican border skirmish and in World War I. For a short time, he also assisted the army as a shooting instructor at both Camp Perry, Ohio, and Fort Benning, Georgia.
