Biography

Sonja Hausladen was one of the best Austrian female swimmers mainly competing in butterfly and individual medley (IM) events during the 1970s and 1980s. At the 1980 Moskva (Moscow) Olympics she failed to reach the final of both the 100 and 200 metres butterfly. Four years later at Los Angeles she finished seventh in the 200 metres butterfly final and was eliminated in the first round of both the 100 metres butterfly and the 400 metres IM. In total, she won 35 Austrian national titles and was nicknamed “Miss Butterfly” in Austria.

Hausladen became a contract employee in a tiny ground floor office of the Ministry of Education, Art and Culture (BMUKK), where she worked as the deputy head of the office.

Personal Bests: 100 m butterfly – 1:02.83 (1984); 200 m butterfly – 2:13.50 (1984); 400 m IM – 4:57.78 (1984).
