Biography

Angelika Kraus was a backstroke swimmer who won a bronze medal at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics with the 4x100 medley relay. She also competed in the 100 and 200 backstrokes in Mexico City and München, failing to reach the finals in all four individual events. In 1970, she won another bronze medal at the Europeans in Barcelona with the medley relay. From 1967-70 she took the West German 100 backstroke titles, and from 1967-71 added the 200 metre titles. In 1968, she was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award.
