Biography

German swimmer Christian Geßner finished fifth over both 200 and 400 metres IM at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. His greatest year was 1991, when he won the 200 metres bronze medal at the World Championships. At that year’s Europeans Geßner won a silver and bronze medal over 200 metres, and a bronze medal over 400. In 1992, he won his only national title, over 200 metres IM.

Geßner studied medicine and became a graduated orthopaedic surgeon, specialising in sports medicine. After working in clinics at Weimar and Erfurt, he founded his own practice at Erfurt.
