Biography

Andreas Wels was a German diver who participated in three consecutive Olympics from 1996 to 2004. At Athens he won the silver medal in the synchronized springboard event partnering Tobias Schellenberg. Individually, Wels reached the finals in 1996 and 2000 but placed only 12th and tenth, respectively.

At World Championships, Wels was more successful, winning silver in 2005 and two bronzes in 2003 and 2007, all in springboard events. At the Europeans he added four gold and five silver medals, and nationally won 36 titles.

After his active career, Wels became youth coach in Halle on Saale. By profession, he became a sports teacher and also engaged in local politics and became a member of the municipal parliament of Halle on Saale in 2019.
