Biography

Gwitha Shand was a New Zealand freestyle swimmer. At the 1923 Australian Swimming Union championship in Sydney, Australia, Shand finished second to Violet Walrond in the 100 yards freestyle. The following year Shand represented New Zealand at the 1924 Paris Olympics. Shand swam in the 100 metres freestyle and the 400 metres freestyle. Shand reached the semi-finals of the 100 metres and the final of the 400 metres but did not finish in the latter.
